Maryland Governor Signs Financial Consumer Protection Act of 2018

On May 15, 2018, Governor Larry Hogan signed into law House Bill 1634 and Senate Bill 1068 which, among other things, expands the definition of "unfair or deceptive trade practices" to include "abusive" trade practices. The bills will also broaden the coverage and increase penalties under the Maryland Consumer Protection Act. We reported on this legislation in an Alert on April 12, 2018. The legislation will take effect on October 1, 2018.
