Today's Trends in Credit Regulation

Have you Heard?

On January 25, 2010, the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLS) announced that it launched the NMLS Consumer Access website.

According to the press release, NMLS Consumer Access is a stand-alone website, separate from NMLS, that contains administrative and licensing information for companies, branches, and individuals licensed or registered through NMLS. The website can be accessed at www.NMLSConsumerAccess.org.

In addition to reviewing general information about a company, consumers will also be able to view the individual licensed loan origiantor’s name, phone number, 10 years of employment history, and the status of the individual’s license.

At the present time, the website does not contain information about enforcement actions taken by regulators against licensed companies and individuals, but this information will be available through NMLS Consumer Access at a future date.

Individual loan originators can request that their information be suppressed from NMLS Consumer Access, but only for bona fide safety concerns supported by legal documentation.

Companies should have their licensed or registered loan originators check the information that appears on this website to ensure that the information and licensing status is accurate.
